Absolute Roof Solutions will install any brand of shingles a client prefers, but after years of experience and testing, we have chosen CertainTeed as our primary product line for residential asphalt roof replacements. CertainTeed’s reputation for durability, appearance, and consistent quality makes it one of the best-performing shingles available today, along with its material warranty.

The truth about manufacturer warranties

While CertainTeed’s warranty is among the strongest in the industry, it is important to understand what a Limited Lifetime Warranty really means.

As explained in our articles What Does “Limited Lifetime” Warranty Mean for Your Shingles? and Don’t Invalidate Your Manufacturer’s Warranty, the word “limited” is key. These warranties protect only against manufacturing defects, not against improper installation, poor ventilation, weather events, or maintenance issues.

Even small details such as inadequate attic airflow, using non-approved materials, or installing new shingles over an old roof can void a manufacturer’s warranty entirely. For this reason, who installs your roof matters more than the paperwork itself.

In real-world terms, workmanship determines whether your roof performs as it should.

Why the Workmanship Warranty matters more

Your roof’s reliability depends far more on the skill and knowledge of the installers than on the shingles alone. Most roof leaks occur within the first two years, and almost all of them are the result of workmanship errors, not material defects.

That is why Absolute Roof Solutions provides our 10-Year Workmanship Warranty on every roof we install. This warranty covers the part of the process that really counts: how the roof is put together. If a problem arises because of how the installation was done, we will fix it completely and at no cost to you.

CertainTeed’s materials warranty is an important part of your protection, especially when the roof is installed correctly and maintained according to manufacturer guidelines.  This is what you should know about it.

What the CertainTeed warranty covers

When properly installed, CertainTeed shingles are protected by a Lifetime Limited Warranty for single-family homes. This means the shingles are warranted to be free from manufacturing defects for as long as the original homeowner owns the property. For multi-family or non-residential buildings, coverage extends up to 40 or 50 years, depending on the product line.

CertainTeed’s SureStart™ Protection provides full, non-prorated coverage for the first 10 years on most premium shingles. During this period, CertainTeed will pay for both materials and labour to replace or repair defective shingles. After the SureStart period ends, coverage continues on a prorated basis for the remainder of the warranty term.

Algae and wind protection

Many CertainTeed shingles feature algae-resistant technology to prevent black streaks caused by blue-green algae. When installed with matching algae-resistant hip and ridge accessories, this coverage lasts 25 or 30 years. Without those accessories, coverage is limited to 10 years.

CertainTeed shingles are also rated to resist high winds, up to 110 miles per hour, or up to 130 miles per hour when installed with CertainTeed starter and ridge accessories. Wind coverage lasts for 15 years on Lifetime shingles and 5 years on standard 25-year shingles.

Transferable warranty

The CertainTeed warranty can be transferred once to the next property owner. If transferred during the SureStart period, the new owner keeps the same protection, but the total warranty length becomes 40 or 50 years from the original installation date. If transferred after the SureStart period, the warranty remains valid for two years from the date of sale.

What Is Not Covered

Like all manufacturer warranties, CertainTeed’s coverage applies only to manufacturing defects. It does not include:

  • Improper installation or inadequate ventilation

  • Damage from wind, hail, fire, or falling debris

  • Ice damming or structural movement

  • Mold, mildew, or environmental staining

  • Damage from rooftop equipment, solar panels, or other contractors

These are the types of problems that fall under the Absolute Roof Solutions Workmanship Warranty, which protects you against the most common causes of roofing failure.

Complete protection for homeowners

When you choose Absolute Roof Solutions, you receive both levels of protection:

  • CertainTeed’s Lifetime Limited Warranty protects against manufacturing defects in the shingles.

  • Absolute Roof Solutions’ 10-Year Workmanship Warranty protects against installation errors and workmanship issues, which are the leading cause of roof problems.

Together, they provide complete coverage and peace of mind. You can choose any shingle brand you prefer, but when we recommend CertainTeed, it is because we know the product performs well, the warranty is strong, and the manufacturer stands behind its quality.

With Absolute Roof Solutions, you get a roof built to last, installed correctly, and supported by warranties that actually mean something.
