A properly installed roof or one correctly repaired provides protection against the elements, enhances energy efficiency, and adds aesthetic value to a home or building.
Can be a dangerous trade
However, roofing can be a dangerous trade. Falls from heights are not the only risk. There is exposure to hazardous materials, possible heat-related sickness and other weather-related hazards, cuts and punctures related to handling metal and other roofing materials, plus the strains of heavy lifting and bending inherent with moving heavy bundles of shingles and other roofing materials.
Safety is of utmost importance
Safety is crucial for roofers, and Absolute Roof Solutions takes it seriously whether our roofers are doing an emergency repair during a rain storm or replacing a roof on a bright sunny day.
Weekly safety meetings
That is why Absolute Roof Solutions conducts weekly safety meetings and maintains a safety binder signed off by each roofer.
Chris Taylor, our senior project manager, is also our safety and training officer. He started his roofing career in 2004 and completed his Red Seal roofer certification in 2010.
Red Seal certification denotes that a “tradesperson has demonstrated the knowledge required for the national standard in that trade.” A Red Seal roofer, according to the classification, needs to be able to “install, repair and replace flat and sloped roofs…work with membrane roofing systems that consist of a variety of materials with different application methods… install, replace and repair shingles, slate, shakes, roofing tiles, sheet metal and other preformed sheeting on sloped roofs.”
Chris quickly progressed in the trade, rapidly moving from labourer to roofer to foreman to crew supervisor and eventually to management. He joined Absolute Roof Solutions in January 2022 and appreciates that ARS is a different kind of roofing company that takes seriously quality installations and client relationships while striving to improve its roofers’ skills and advance the trade.
Variety of topics covered
Safety meeting topics include WCB fall protection, equipment safety, weather-related safety topics as well as safe driving tips amongst others.
Chris, at each meeting, also provides instruction on the technical aspects of roofing. Topics can include the latest and greatest roofing techniques and materials, the different types of current roofing material and their proper handling and installation, the various aspects of correct roof ventilation, the best methods to combat moisture or condensation on a roof, the proper installation of plumbing vents or skylights, etc.
Take pride in our roofing technicians
Absolute Roof Solution takes pride in our roofers and helps them to become true roofing professionals in all aspects of the trade. Safety is a very important part of a roofer’s craft to have a long, safe career.
